Are You a Materialist? Are You Into Materialism? Nudge Nudge, Wink Wink.

It's been a long time since I posted a link to a quiz, but I like this one, because it proved all my self-preconceptions. Sweet. I've long been a fan of existentialism -- as much as you can be a fan of something that causes you to feel incredibly uncomfortable in the world -- and I've often told people that I'm not a postmodernist and I'm not an idealist. Now I've got the cold, hard numbers to back me up.

Take the quiz and let us know what you are in the comments section. What kind of souls lurk here?
You scored as Existentialist. Existentialism emphasizes human capability. There is no greater power interfering with life and thus it is up to us to make things happen. Sometimes considered a negative and depressing world view, your optimism towards human accomplishment is immense. Mankind is condemned to be free and must accept the responsibility.

Apparently, I am also an existentialist, although postmodernism was a very close second.

How very fitting then, that I'm about to head off to Jean Paul Seurat's birthplace tomorrow. I must remember to be extra negative and pretentious out of principle.

thanks for the much-needed tear-inducing belly laugh. i took the quiz (being a sucker for anything that might tell me something about myself that i don't already know, or think i know, thereby solving all kinds of complex emotional and psychological problems). i don't know if this happened to you, but get this-- i got a tie-breaker! they presented me with 3 of the original statements and asked me to pick which one i could most easily get behind, while selling the smallest possible portion of my soul to the devil. (my wording, not theirs.)

and THEN... AFTER the tie-breaker, i STILL wind up with a tripartite world view. three camps in a dead heat. "this is brilliant," i think, through the aforementioned laugh tears. "i go in search of answers to salve my very soul from an internet quiz (my brother was certainly pleased with HIS results!), and i discover--surprise!--that i'm JUST the sort of person who would so eagerly take this bait. the sort of person who wants someone/something to define her so she doesn't have to do it herself!! AAarrrgghhh!! HAAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!"

peals of laughter. more tears.

then, upon closer inspection, i realize that YOUR results were tied, too, albeit in a lesser, two-way (dare i say 'bipartisan'?) way. i'm glad i hadn't initially noticed that. it would've greatly reduced my glee.

oh. my perfectly even 1/3s are as follows:
existentialist, cultural creative, postmodernist

god. i should be an actor.

I am a huge fan of ASWOBA (and its ugly acronym) but your polar quiz opposite -- an idealist postmodernist. What does it all mean? :)

What is this "Cultural Creative" hooey? Whatever it means, I guess I'm it, but I nearly had a 3-way tie, too. CC won by a slight margin over Materialist and Idealist, which were tied (go figure) for second. Do I contradict myself ...? But I'd better stop there. I'm afraid invoking Walt Whitman to justify the results might tip the scale uncomfortably towards Romanticism.

I am not as balanced as you. Existentailist 81%, Materialist 75%, and then a huge drop off in all categories bottoming out at 0% in the Idealist category.

Cultural Creative, followed by Existentialist.

I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as "Cultural Creative," though. So I guess that's an internet quiz's way of doing one of these: [shoulder shrug]

It's really kind of disappointing. I mean, it's like I took a "Which monster are you" quiz, and my number two answer was Dracula (let's face it, it might be a pain to be Dracula, but it's clearly the coolest monster, just like Existentialist), and my number one was "Fang Claw." Yes, "Fang Claw" has words that fit in this category, but it's not an actual monster, and put together, the words mean absolutely nothing.

Total rip off.

Here's my result. I figured I'd score the same as Comish based on our mutual love of Texas and ability to balance some spirituality with intellectualism.
Cultural Creatives are probably the newest group to enter this realm. You are a modern thinker who tends to shy away from organized religion but still feels as if there is something greater than ourselves. You are very spiritual, even if you are not religious. Life has a meaning outside of the rational.

I'm a "Cultural Creative," whatever that means.

Cultural Creative 88%
Idealist 69%
Postmodernist 63%
Existentialist 56%
Modernist 44%
Romanticist 31%
Fundamentalist 19%
Materialist 6%

And by the way, I just want to point out for the record that you are 38% Fundamenatlist, whereas I am only 19% fundamentalist. I find this extremely amusing, rather like homophobic zealots that get caught in a homosexual tryst. Maybe you're resisting your true nature, if you're almost 20% more fundamentalist than I am! Frankly, I think my fundamentalist score should be zero.

I know, I was kind of alarmed by my fundie score. I like to think it just means I doggedly stick to my fundamental principles. Of course, that can be bad, too.

It's a lose-lose situation!
