It Ain't Easy Livin' Like a Gypsy
I've been rediscovering some classic Aerosmith lately, so along those lines, for Wednesday here's the band doing "Mama Kin" in Houston in 1977. The picture joins the sound about 20 seconds in. Enjoy:

I was out doing some highway driving this holiday, and when I do highway driving I tune in to the classic rock I grew up with. I know every word and every note of almost every classic rock song that was played between, say, 1978 and 1985. I mention this because one of the songs that came on was "Sweet Emotion." I wasn't a huge Aerosmith fan, but I was nonetheless struck by how f-ing well that song holds up. That is a damn good song. And it made an interesting counterpoint to "Back in Black," which doesn't hold up at all. In fact, it really, really sucks -- and I was a huge AC/DC fan.
I agree with you on "Sweet Emotion," but I think you're crazy about "Back in Black" -- that song still rocks. I listen to it all the time.
Actually the song was "Hell's Bells," which DOES really, really, suck, especially coming after "Sweet Emotion." "Back in Black" is a better song, but still, Aerosmith went for a real groove and a kind of depth that the monodimensional Brian Johnson-brand AC/DC avoided like the plague. (Bon Scott, God rest his vomit-asphyxiated soul, was ever so much funkier.) was everBack in jr hi we were all wary of any music that had a groove or was otherwise too pleasurable.
