More soon, but for now: If you missed Scott Pelley's report on 60 Minutes last night about the Deepwater Horizon explosion (and one survivor's story in particular), it's riveting. Both parts below. (You have to wait through some commercials for the segments, but it's worth it.) And if you're interested in photography of the disaster, you probably can't do better than the Boston Globe's Big Picture.
A terribly touching and preventable story. Mike Williams (& Ken Abbott) are heroes but I'm surprised they are not in the Witness Protection Program. But perhaps their whistle-blowing is now a matter of record, killing them would only be revenge.
ReplyDeleteWe get so used to the flabby, blatantly dishonest "testimony" of guilty CEOs trying to cover their butts, the investigator B's forthrightness is excitingly firm.
Once again, common sense is not common enough. Stop, Think, Don't Do Something Stupid.
P.S.

Yes, Barbara, common sense is in short supply, something that has probably always been true. But it seems especially important in situations like this, where the risks are so big. Surprising that people take them.
ReplyDeleteNicely updated profile...good to see what you're up to!
I saw this piece as well and was incredibly impressed with both the storytelling and how strong the interviews were. Excellent journalism.
